Not my time to die

Not my time to die: Titanic and the Swedes on board presents a brief but thorough history of the Titanic and gives an array of information about the tragedy as reported by the press of the day--the American, the Swedish, and most importantly the Swedish-American press. The book describes the conditions in Sweden in 1912, the reasons for the emigration, and profiles each of the 123 Swedes on board. The stories of the 34 survivors cover some 100 pages.
Families are separated or decide to die together. The personal stories are vivid and heart-breaking, but not without happy endings. This well-referenced and illustrated book about the third-largest ethnic group on the Titanic is the first of its kind published outside of Sweden.

This review is from: Not my time to die - Titanic and the Swedes on board (Paperback)
Author Lilly Setterdahl has penned a very definitive work regarding the Swedes on board the Titanic. While her book discusses all the Swedes on board that fateful ship, she focuses on the Swedes who survived and made it to America. Although historic in focus, it reads like a novel that unveils the mystery surrounding the Swedish passengers that survived to make it to America and live their dreams of freedom in a new land. The author also presents great background on what drove these emigrants to leave Sweden.

As one whose family immigrated to America from Sweden in 1912 as well, I found the information and story to be amazing.

Lilly has done it again! Her history books are so well written and informative! In Not My Time to Die Lilly brings the stories of Swedes aboard the Titanic to life and sheds an important story on both the victims and the survivors. Lilly has done a lot of research on what became of the survivors of that terrible tragedy and how that terrible night affected their lives. This is a must read for anyone interested in the Titanic and also Swedish Immigration.

This review is from: Not my time to die - Titanic and the Swedes on board (Paperback)
I finished the book quickly, as it was very easy to read. Then i decided that it would make an interesting historical and cultural program for my Lodge.
I condensed the contents and gave an informative synopsis at our January meeting. It was very well received as most of the members had no knowledge of the Swedish connection with the Titanic.
Several members have asked to borrow my book.
I would like to read other books by Lilly Setterdal.

This review is from: Not my time to die - Titanic and the Swedes on board (Paperback)
Author Lilly Setterdahl, an authority on the subjects of Swedish and Titanic history, fills a tremendous informational gap
with her latest book "Not My Time to Die". The book focuses on Swedish emigrants traveling aboard the Titanic on that tragic night. Although, this is a very important detailed historical outline, it reads like a novel with a compelling story line.
