Lilly Setterdahl’s Swedish immigration novel plays like a movie. The story begins in Sweden after World War I when Katrin assumes her first job. The young girl turns down a marriage proposal because she wants to see the world. She pulls us into a life of longing for both the unknown and the familiar, conflicts, and illusive love until she decides where she belongs. Her strong attachment to her childhood home, parents, brothers, and sisters carries over in her love and concern for her own family. The reader will find Katrin, almost American to be entertaining, educational, and as relevant in today’s world as in the 20th century.

Endorsements:
"Immigration researcher and novelist Lilly Setterdahl´s new story, “Katrin, almost American,” is a realistic description of life in both Sweden and the thriving Swedish-American community in Chicago during the 1900´s, when the city was considered Sweden’s second largest. It is built on Lilly´s close acquaintance with Swedish settlements in the United States, yet retains a very human touch.”
 John E. Norton
Katrin’s Swedish-American saga is told in a voice that’s authentic and perfectly in tune with the early twentieth century. Katrin moves from rural Sweden to urban Chicago and back again on her quest for romance and adventure. Setterdahl creates a resourceful woman who insists on living life on her own terms. Inspiring and loaded with rich details.

Katrin, almost American is enjoyable and hard to put down. I felt like I was living her experiences and traveled with her as she surprised me along the way.
